Leaders of Upazila Presidents Association demand punishment from Cumilla legislator

Leaders of the Upazila Parishad Association of Bangladesh have demanded an exemplary punishment against Cumilla-4 lawmaker Razi Mohammad Fakhrul for assaulting Upazila Parishad Chairman Abul Kalam Azad during a party meeting in the National Parliament recently.

At a Sunday press conference at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity in the capital, they threatened that all upazila presidents and vice presidents would resign together if Fakhrul was not punished.

Association chairman Harun-ur Rashid said the dignity of public officials and politicians was ruined by the incident. They expect a peaceful political solution and the punishment of the culprits by next month.

On July 16, a meeting of the Cumilla Debidwar Upazila Awami League Council Preparation Committee was held in the LD Room of the National Parliament Building. At one point, lawmaker Razi Mohammad Fakhrul allegedly started hitting and kicking Upazila chairman Abul Kalam Azad.

The leaders of the upazila parishad association have announced that they are observing several peaceful activities until the accused lawmaker is punished.

Harun -ur Rashid said they will submit a memorandum to the president on September 2, submit a request to the prime minister to take administrative action on September 7, hold an assembly in Dhaka with all presidents, vice presidents and vice presidents of the upazila. presidents from all over the country in Dhaka on September 15 and resign together after all these attempts failed by informing the Prime Minister and the people of the areas concerned.
