Howard Stern welcomes Taylor Swift’s political stance
While Taylor Swift has been criticized after supporting former Vice President Joe Biden, Howard Stern speaks about his relatively new political activism.
“Celebrities who won’t say who they’re voting for because they don’t want to piss off their audience – fuck you too!” Stern said on his SiriusXM show Monday. “Like Taylor Swift, good for her. She has about 83 million followers and she went out and said who she votes for and I’m like well is standing up for your country.
As of Monday afternoon, Swift had 87.4 million followers on Twitter, making it one of the most popular accounts on the social media platform. The “Exile” singer, who had consciously remained silent on politics until October 2018, advocated for Biden this election cycle.
“I’m sure his masters were telling him, ‘Don’t say anything, you’re going to make people angry. You don’t want to be like the Dixie Chicks and be political, “said Stern, who also supports President Donald Trump’s opponent.” F *** that! Be like the Dixie Chicks. “
The newly rebranded Chicks, of course, were left out of country music, the genre Swift began her career in, after their lead singer, Natalie Maines, spoke out against President George W. Bush in 2003. Swift a specifically cited seeing this group experience as the reason she strayed from politics. She eventually changed her mind, she said, because her moral compass told her to do it. And she hasn’t looked back, when it comes to issues, such as LGBTQ rights or her favorite candidates.
Swift officially endorsed Biden on October 7. On Monday, she reminded subscribers to vote and included illustrations of Biden and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris in the short video message.
Stern also praised singer Marc Anthony for urging Puerto Ricans across the Americas to join him in supporting Biden.
