Holliston’s Arena-DeRosa Receives Mass Nurses Association Approval

HOLLISTON, MA — James Arena-DeRosa of Holliston, a candidate for the Middlesex State House 8th district, was endorsed Thursday by the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

“The MNA is excited to announce its endorsement of James Arena-DeRosa for State Representative in Middlesex’s 8th District,” said MNA Chair Katie Murphy, a registered critical care nurse. “James is committed to solving the issues that matter most to our nurses, healthcare professionals and patients – like comprehensive workplace violence prevention laws, improving workplace safety and ensuring that the voices of frontline healthcare workers are heard in Beacon Hill.”

The MNA is the largest union and professional association for registered nurses and health care professionals in the state, and the third largest in the nation. It represents more than 25,000 members working in 85 healthcare facilities, including 51 acute care hospitals, as well as a growing number of nurses and healthcare professionals working in schools, nurse visitor associations, wards public health and state agencies.

Arena-DeRosa said he was inspired to pursue a career in public service thanks to his mother, who was a nurse.

“I am grateful for the support of the Massachusetts Nurses Association,” Arena-DeRosa said. “I was raised by a nurse and member of the MNA. My mother, Vera DeRosa, taught me the importance of public service, civic engagement and strong public health institutions.

“From her, I know the challenges that nurses and healthcare professionals face, especially during the incredibly turbulent and unstable COVID-19 years,” he continued. “Therefore, I pledge to be a strong ally to the deputy’s causes and issues if elected as a state representative.”

Arena-DeRosa said he is running for state representative to give suburban communities in the district of Holliston, Hopkinton, Sherborn and part of Millis “a seat at the table.”

“Together, we’ll ensure the political process in Boston doesn’t neglect small towns in conversations about infrastructure, climate change, elder care, youth talent retention, and education,” he said. -he adds.

Arena DeRosa has decades of experience in public service through her roles with Oxfam America, the Peace Corps and the United States Department of Agriculture in the Obama administration.

Middlesex State House 8th District includes Holliston, Hopkinton, Sherborn and Millis wards two and three. The seat is vacant after Rep. Carolyn Dykema resigned in February.

Representative David Linsky’s Middlesex 5th District no longer includes Millis and Sherborn.
