Association Chardon and Chardon Square looking for artists to create two murals
The Chardon Square Association and the Town of Chardon recently announced a collaborative art project sponsoring two new murals near the square.
The competition theme for the two murals is simply “Thistle” and left to the interpretation of the artist, according to a press release. The winning drawings will be selected by the members of the association and finally approved by the municipal council of Chardon.
The first mural will be a ‘refresh’ of the current design which serves as the backdrop to the association’s Giving Garden and is located in the service aisle behind the Beans Coffee Shop.
Entries for this mural must be submitted by April 10. Weather permitting, the winner will need to complete the mural between May 15 and May 31 so that the garden can be planted for the season. The association will pay for the supplies necessary for the realization of this project.
The second mural will be located at the back of the same building, 106 Water Street. The city approved $1,600 for the project. This location is more challenging because the artist’s vision will be designed around the existing panels and service garage door, the statement said.
Entries for this design must be submitted by May 1, with the mural completed by June 12.
The guidelines include:
• Artwork must be original in concept and not violate US copyright laws
• The work must reflect Chardon (interpretation of the artist)
• Nothing political, inappropriate, offensive, discriminatory or unsuitable for viewing by all ages
• Artist(s) must submit a color rendering of their design being completed
• Artists must be able to meet the deadline for completion.
Contest information is available at www.chardonsquareassociation.org. Nominations may be submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to: Chardon Square Association, Attn: Mural, PO Box 1063, Chardon, OH, 44024.
Artists must specify “Giving Garden” or “City” with their entries.
